Utility Partners Names MapFrame Certified Interface Partner Companies Announce Mapping and Mobile Field System Integration Alliance
Tampa, FL - (July 23, 2001) - Utility Partners, Inc., the leading software solutions provider for the utility and distribution enterprise
industries, has recognized MapFrame Corporation, the Dallas-based developer of mobile computing solutions for field operations, as a Certified Interface Partner. The designation commemorates the successful integration of
MapFrame's FieldSmart View application with Utility Partners' MobileUP software for mutual client Dominion Virginia Power.
"Partnering with MapFrame has been rewarding for us in many ways," said Ed Krufka, Utility Partners' Vice President of Product Management.
"Integrating FieldSmart View with MobileUP has added tremendous value to our product by providing our customer's field technicians with extra functionality in the field. We've really enjoyed working with the MapFrame team and look forward to many more successful projects between our two companies."
"We believe we can best serve our clients by integrating MapFrame's field applications with broader solutions like MobileUP," said Paul
Wilson, MapFrame President. "Virginia Power is a great example of how MapFrame and Utility Partners are working together to provide maximum value to the client."
The collaboration between the two companies began with Dominion Virginia Power's need to integrate spatial data into work orders dispatched via
Utility Partners' MobileUP system. In 1998, Dominion began using MobileUP to schedule, manage, dispatch, and complete jobs out in the field. With MobileUP's Mobile Field application loaded on to their mobile data
terminals, the company's field service technicians can receive and complete work orders and transmit the information back to the office over several wireless communication modes.
MobileUP modifies each technician's work orders throughout the day in response to emergencies and other changing conditions.
Prior to integrating MapFrame's FieldSmart View application into MobileUP, Dominion Virginia Power's field service technicians had to rely on hefty
and often outdated map books to locate facilities at the job site. To increase efficiency and do away with the cost of reprinting paper map books several times a year, Dominion Virginia Power wanted mobile mapping
capability tied in to Mobile Field. The integration of FieldSmart View into Mobile Field has resulted in a system that allows Dominion's field users to pull up a work order and tap a button on the screen that displays a map of
the project area.
The instant availability of map data at the field service technician's fingertips helps speed the maintenance and repair process by providing the
user with the most current information and rendering unnecessary time consuming searches through paper map books.
"Our field users love the new system," said Rick Riveland, Dominion Virginia Power's Senior Business Systems Analyst.
"Some of our veteran technicians told me that the enhanced tracing, searching, and querying capabilities of the new FieldSmart map viewing application, working together with the work order management capabilities of MobileField, are the best innovations they've seen in their 30-plus years out in the field."
